At the Harvey Awards, Tatsuki Fujimoto's Chainsaw Man manga won Best Manga.

On Friday, Tatsuki Fujimoto's Chainsaw Man (translated by Amanda Haley) won the Harvey Award for Best Manga, which celebrates excellent work in comics and sequential art. For the awards event, Fujimoto issued the following statement:

"Thank you for the extremely fantastic honour!" It is the most prestigious honour in the United States! I don't think this shabby comic is deserving of any accolades, but I intend to continue stuffing it with all of my favourite things.

Please contact me if you are ever giving out awards again. Thank you sincerely!

The comic was up against Asadora! by Naoki Urasawa, Boys Run the Riot by Keito Gaku, Remina by Junji Ito, and SPY x FAMILY by Tatsuya End.

Along with Bernie Wrightson, Jeffrey Catherine Jones, Barry Windsor-Smith, and Michael Kaluta, the event's organisers admitted manga author Rumiko Takahashi as one of five new members to its Hall of Fame this year. Takahashi also issued a statement in response to the award:

Thank you so much for this fantastic honour. I'm ecstatic that my work has been appreciated by American readers. I'm thrilled to be able to speak with all of you through the medium of manga. COVID is doing havoc on the earth, but I'm hoping that my comic can help.

In 2018, the Harvey Awards established a Best Manga category. My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness by Kabi Nagata took first place in this category. My Hero Academia by Khei Horikoshi won the prize in 2019, while Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama won the award in 2020.

Manga has previously been nominated in the "Best American Edition of Foreign Material" category alongside other comics. Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama was the last manga to receive the award in 2014. In 2016, the films One Punch Man and Showa: A History of Japan (1953-1989) were nominated but did not win. There is no longer a category for "Best American Edition of Foreign Material."

The Harvey Prizes, unlike the Eisner Awards and other awards in the North American comic book business, are nominated and chosen by the industry's experts.
